Health
The Problem
According To The Latest Statistics From WHO On Life Expectancy, Cameroon Is In The Third Of Countries In Africa With The Lowest Life Expectancy. Life Expectancy Remains Closely Linked To Access To And Quality Of The Health System.
The paradox is that Cameroon spends more money on health than the rest of sub-Saharan Africa (excluding South Africa): $61 per capita compared to an average of $51. But it is Cameroonians themselves who bear most of this financial burden. Raju Jan Singh, Chief Economist for Central Africa at the World Bank, explains that there is therefore a strong correlation between health and income indicators, with the wealthiest households or wealthiest regions having better access to health services.
However, rural populations being the poorest, they are not able to bear health-related costs, resulting in higher and earlier mortality rates compared to urban populations.
Our Solution
We wish to contribute to improving the health of rural populations through various actions, making it possible to detect, prevent and treat silent illnesses such as diabetes, chronic kidney disease, hypertension. We aim to facilitate access to health, educate populations and consequently reduce the mortality rate. Our actions begin in the west of Cameroon with a focus on:
- The establishment of mobile clinics (running health screenings);
- Malaria prevention campaigns: information on the disease, distribution of mosquito nets;
- Campaigns to bring awareness on infectious diseases;
- Family planning and distribution of contraceptives.
